Playing the guitar without an amp sounds like an overlooked and logical test of the guitar. Taking this a step farther and maybe looking a little suspicious.....using a stethoscope to pick out a guitar might work? Actually hearing the "heartbeat of the guitar" or one in need of a bypass?
