The simplest way I can explain it is to face the amp and tone the highs down to where they sound similar to what you would hear off-center of the amp. To my ear, that's a clean but non-offensive treble with just enough presence to allow the metal in your picks to define the note. The Everly show had two boards, one for the stage and the other for the audience. Most of the time my only communication was with our stage tech. You always want to sound your best for everybody but certain conditions force you to have to settle for what sounds best on stage. In Vegas where we worked a week at a time, I had a chance to control both stage and audience sound, but for one nighters and different sized venues, it was like I said: "hope for the best."
