Yes there was a compressor on Heart of a clown. I'm glad you liked the C6 tone. I'm more tolerant of a C6 tone on a guitar so my decision to change was based on the E9 sound, although I discovered later that my Emmons guitar had a warmer C6 sound when I recorded it on the same tracks. You're right, equipment will color the tone you get with your hands and when the guitar masks the sound I know I'm capable of getting from them, it becomes a struggle to play. The best tone for me is the sound that offers the least resistance, which so far has been the Emmons guitar.
