Thanks Bill. I'm presently using a D'Andrea brand thumb pick that feels good, but I like National mediums too. I pick hard at times so it takes a heavier gauge finger pick to keep the band from spreading. As for the gauge, all I can tell you is they're the old style Nationals and I can't find them any more. I've been told they are a combination of nickel and silver.
