There was a unit called Steelrider, which was a steel guitar midi interface made by IVL Technologies LTD in Canada. I don't know the status of the IVL company today but the Steelrider was discontinued quite a while ago. I used one on my Christmas album called Christmas Sounds of the Steel Guitar. Steel guitarist Al Petty was endorsing a different brand interface around the same time the Steelrider was introduced but I haven't heard much about it since, so I don't know whether it's still available.
